How Player of The Match is Calculated

Learn how points are calculated for batting, bowling, and fielding with examples.

Batting Points

Batting points are calculated based on runs scored, strike rate, milestones, and par score. Here's how:

  • Basic Points: 1 point for every 5 runs scored.
  • Strike Rate Bonus: 0.1 points for every point above the team strike rate.
  • Milestone Bonus:
    • 5 points for scoring 50+ runs.
    • 10 points for scoring 100+ runs.
    • 15 points for scoring 150+ runs.
    • 20 points for scoring 200+ runs.
  • Par Score Bonus: 0.1 points for every run above the calculated par score based on the batting position.

Example:

A batter scores 75 runs off 50 balls in a T20 match:

  • Basic Points: 75 / 5 = 15 points
  • Strike Rate Bonus: Strike rate is 150 (team strike rate is 125). Bonus = (150 - 125) × 0.1 = 2.5 points
  • Milestone Bonus: 5 points for scoring 50+ runs
  • Total: 15 + 2.5 + 5 = 22.5 points

Bowling Points

Bowling points are calculated based on wickets taken, economy rate, milestones, maidens, and special achievements like hattricks.

  • Wicket Points: 3.5 points for each wicket taken (T20 format).
  • Powerplay Wicket Bonus: 1 additional point for wickets taken in powerplay overs.
  • Economy Points:
    • Bonus: 10 points for economy < 4, 5 points for economy < 6.
    • Penalty: -1.30 points per over for economy > 12.
  • Milestone Bonus:
    • 5 points for 3 wickets.
    • 10 points for 5 wickets.
  • Hattrick Bonus: 15 points for a hattrick in T20 matches.

Example:

A bowler takes 3 wickets and concedes 24 runs in 4 overs in a T20 match:

  • Wicket Points: 3 × 3.5 = 10.5 points
  • Economy Rate: Economy = 24 / 4 = 6 (No penalty, no bonus)
  • Milestone Bonus: 5 points for 3 wickets
  • Total: 10.5 + 5 = 15.5 points

Fielding Points

Fielding points are awarded for catches, run-outs, stumpings, and bonus points for outstanding fielding.

  • Catch Points: 50% of the bowler's wicket points for a regular catch, 60% for caught behind.
  • Run-Out Points: 100% of bowler's wicket points for direct-hit run-outs, 50% for assists.
  • Stumping Points: 100% of the bowler's wicket points.
  • Bonus Fielding Points: 1.2 additional points per catch if 3+ catches are taken.

Example:

A fielder takes 4 catches and assists in 1 run-out:

  • Catch Points: 4 × (3.5 × 0.50) = 7 points
  • Bonus Points: 1.2 × 4 = 4.8 points
  • Run-Out Points: 3.5 × 0.50 = 1.75 points
  • Total: 7 + 4.8 + 1.75 = 13.55 points
